Pregnancy has become much safer and well calculated than it was in the old days. Couples of present generation are more practical in planning for a family by consulting the doctors before getting pregnancy and even make a pregnancy chart and prepare themselves mentally, financially and even emotionally fit to welcome their baby. By following all the necessary measures to have a safe delivery.

When a women is confirmed that she is pregnant the feeling of becoming mom itself takes her to different world and at the same time she has to follow certain rules and regulations by enjoying the excitement of expected mom. Even hospitals and maternity clinics even have customised plans for the expected mothers, they are given a healthy diet plan during pregnancy and follow the timeline which is very important because one has to monitor what the pregnant women is eating during her pregnancy during the initial months of pregnancy when the baby is just new and getting used to the womb.

If a pregnant woman has a deficiency in vitamins and nutrients the baby is likely to have deficiencies with improper nutrition ad diet plan during pregnancy is considered to increase the risk of childhood illnesses and also accounts for retardation in babies. It can also cause different physical and neurological problems in babies.

Women must gain weight during their pregnancy because their bodies must be able to support a baby's growth and baby development. The diet plan for pregnant woman depends upon her weight. If she is healthy enough, she needs to consume only few amounts of calories instead of having pregnancy diet plan which leas to overweight. If a woman is weak and anemic, she has to eat high calorie foods during the course because she has to provide adequate amounts of nutrition to herself as well as the growing fetus by following pregnancy diet plan.

1. Good nutrition during pregnancy with proper pregnancy diet plan, is very important for a baby to grow and develop. For this a pregnant women should consume about 300 more calories per day.

2. The diet plan for pregnancy constitutes eating healthy diet like fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy products like drinking milk daily  provides adequate amount of calcium. Include vegetables, rice, potatoes and grains in your daily diet which reduces the complications of pregnancy.

3. A pregnant women should have smaller meals in between lunch and dinner by eating healthy snacks which includes salads and cereals in the diet along with fresh fruits and fruit juices.

4. A healthy non-veg diet for pregnant women can have is fish, chicken, either grilled or baked.

5. Iron is an important mineral which is an essential part of the pregnancy diet plan that improves hemoglobin count. Consumption of Vitamin A and vitamin C are more essential during pregnancy. Sources of vitamin C such as oranges, grapefruits, strawberries and good sources of vitamin A include carrots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, spinach and water squash.

6. Diet plan for pregnancy includes folic acid such as beans, peas, and rice which improves brain development of baby inside the womb.
Folic acid is a B vitamin and is essential for cell growth. It aids in cellular regeneration and is necessary for the first few weeks of the unborn baby's development.

7. Eating sweets is the best diet plan during pregnancy. But some pregnant women may have a chance of getting diabetes during the time of pregnancy which is called as gestational diabetes. This type of diabetes goes off after pregnancy. But a pregnant women who has diabetes should be very careful about her diet plan and should exclude starchy food stuffs like rice, pasta, sweets and potatoes from diet.

8. The pregnancy diet plan constitutes drinking and eating at least four servings of dairy products and calcium-rich foods a day. Though water is not a nutrient, but it is very important for the functioning of the body as it prevents swelling and reduces the risk of constipation during pregnancy.

9. The diet plan for pregnant women recommends eating nutritious foods, especially fruits and vegetables which reduces pregnant women’s risk of developing an upper respiratory tract infection and  improves immunity. There are also certain foods that should be avoided. Fish such as shark, swordfish, king mackerel, or tilefish have high levels of mercury dangerous to a baby's developing nervous system.



The most important to remember during pregnancy is to get enough protein, iron, folate, calcium and vitamin D from your food sources and supplements combined.
