diet plan for diabetics


The diabetic patients diet is not different from normal person only thing is the person who has diabetes need to take extra care in their diet like balance food intake of healthy, low fat and balanced eating plan with exercise, insulin injections and any other glucose altering activities will keep them lead normal life without raising any complications. The huge variations in blood sugar causes due to starving and overeating which is not helpful for anyone's metabolism whether it a diabetic patient or normal person.

Diabetes is a disease where our body do not produce enough hormone called insulin which is responsible for glucose to get into our cells and produce energy to our body. Without enough insulin, glucose will stay in our blood and cause our blood glucose levels to raise. Sometimes, high glucose levels leads to serious damages in heart, kidneys, eyes and nerves.

Diabetic diet plan differs from person to person due to our nutritional needs, daily activity and type of diabetes a patient suffers as there are 3 types of diabetes and not all these diabetes can be managed with diabetic diet.

Type I Diabetes : As said earlier all types of diabetic diseases cannot be controlled by diet plan. In this Diabetes typeI the body does not produce insulin hormone and it should be treated by insulin injection regularly given to diabetes patient as it is not controlled by exercise or diet plan. The typeI diabetes is mostly found in young adults and children with heart disease.

Type II Diabetes :  The people with  overweight will suffer with
type II diabetes which is a common type and can be managed by diabetic diet plan that constitutes weight loss with proper exercise without any treatment of insulin also known as non diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).

Gestational Diabetes: This type of diabetes is mostly seen in women developed during the late stages of pregnancy and disappears after pregnancy. Gestational diabetes treatment includes special diabetic diet meal and scheduled physical activity. In some cases it may also include daily blood glucose testing and insulin injections.

As most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose. By learning what to eat, how much to eat and when to eat we can keep our blood glucose levels within a target range. Diet plans for diabetes are not complicated and hard to follow whereas your daily meal plan should take into account your size as well as your physical activity level.

1.Diet plan for diabetic should constitute a diabetic meal with a balanced healthy diet with proper intake of carbohydrates, proteins and fats that provide essential nutrients as well as to create an even release of glucose into the blood of a diabetes patient that keeps  near to that of a normal person.

2. The diabetic diet chart is helpful in avoiding any surges in the blood glucose levels at any time of the day which can be easily accomplished by following a "three meals and three small snacks" pattern by avoiding foods that cause the sugar levels and choosing foods high in fiber.

3. Proper diet plan for diabetes will alone is not helpful to control glucose levels in diabetic patients, but exercising improves the body's ability to use the insulin and helps in controlling the blood sugar.

4. Diabetic patients should follow the proper diet plan like  carbohydrates from whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes (beans, peas and lentils) and low-fat dairy products are great recipes to control your blood sugar. Take fish at least twice a week but avoid fried fish and fish with high levels of mercury. Meat group includes all poultry  beef, chicken, eggs, tofu, and peanut butter. Drink water and calorie-free "diet" drinks instead of regular sugar-sweetened drinks.
Use liquid oils for cooking instead of solid fats that can be high in saturated and trans fats. Be careful that eating too much of healthy food leads to weight gain.

5. Counting daily carbohydrate intake is highly recommended by dietitians for diabetic patients who take medications or insulin. A change in the amount of carbohydrates you eat daily, whether large or small, can cause your blood sugar levels to fluctuate drastically.

As the diabetics are much prone in developing heart diseases, a diet low fat will help to prevent heart diseases in the near future.
A good diet plan will not only help you improve your blood glucose levels but also help keep your weight on track. Healthy Diet and  exercise will help to control your blood sugar levels. Diabetologists always recommend weight loss as the first step towards managing diabetes.
