TV Impact on Kids
Once there was the time where kids used to spend their time with either with their parents or with grand parents and used to listen to the stories from them. As the days are passing
Many families are getting separated due to transfers in job and so many other situations,
In such conditions a system called nuclear families evolved and both parents are
becoming busy and kids are growing by watching the most “idiot box” called TV which
became a necessary evil in today’s world.
During the ages of 3 to 6 yrs, kids learn and acquire important social skills and values
Which will shape their personality. This is the age where they enter into world of life and
tries to know about family relations, friends and people around them, but TV has
become a part of many kids lives which gives long term implications for child’s
development. This television has taken the place of physical childhood activities and
moreover, children are becoming more of a couch potato, with many physical and mental
problems. TV is making the kids unaware of the fun of childhood like flying kites,
making castle of sand, playing in fields etc.
TV is not only affecting the kids physical fitness but is also affecting learning and school performance. Mostly cartoon shows which are said to be meant for kids are more affecting children by creating lots of violence in the shows and the kids are exposed to the violence and performing the activities as their favorite cartoon hero does.
TV impact on kids is in such a way that they forget to play outside games and even have no friends which really affects the future generation if they doesn’t have mutual understanding with people around them as they grow. They don’t even know what the friendship is which is the most valuable relation.
TV has both good and bad sides of viewing . How much impact TV has on children depends on many factors:
How much they watch
Their age and personality
Whether they watch alone or with adults and
Whether parents talk about what they see on TV.
TO minimize the potential negative effects of television, it’s important to understand what the impact of TV can be on children.
Parents should know what their children are watching on TV and should tell them about how this effects them and encourage kids to watch TV only to some extent and keep them involved in activities of their interest to build their career which keeps them away from this idiotic box. Everything is on parents to manage their kids in watching TV and building their child’s future.
